Janicza Bravo Bio

The American film director, film producer, and screenwriter Janicza Michelle Bravo Ford is a product of the United States. Among her projects are Gregory Go Boom, which ended up winning the short-film jury prize at the Sundance Film Festival; Lemon, which she wrote in collaboration with Brett Gelman; and Zola, which she wrote in collaboration with writer Jeremy O. Harris.

Bravo was born in New York City, and her parents, Ana María Ford and Rafael Ángel Landers, are her parents. Both of her parents are tailors, and they are from the city of Colón in Panama. At the time when Bravo was still a little child, her mother joined the United States military. She spent her childhood between Colón and an Army installation in Panama City, Panama, from the time she was three months old until she was a teenager. Her family eventually relocated back to the United States of America.

Throughout her youth, she was a frequent traveler, spending time in both the United States of America and Panama. It was when she was 12 years old that her family relocated to Crown Heights, Queens. Bravo received her education at the Playwrights Horizons Theater School, which is part of the New York University Tisch School of the Arts. There, she focused on directing and design for theater, which included both costume and set design.

She came to Los Angeles many years after graduating from college, where she worked as a stylist and produced small theatrical plays. It was around this time that she was contacted by a cinematographer who approached her with the offer of aid with filming. Writing and directing several short films was how Bravo got her start in the industry. It was during the 2011 SXSW Feature Festival that she made her debut with her first feature, Eat, which starred Katherine Waterston and Brett Gelman. Vice ultimately decided to acquire the picture.

During the movie, the protagonist, a lady, finds herself locked out of her apartment and encounters an unusual neighbor. The dark comedy Gregory Go Boom, which she directed in 2013, was the recipient of the short-film jury prize at the Sundance Film Festival. It starred Michael Cera in the role of a paraplegic who lives in the vicinity of the Salton Sea. Bombay Beach and Slab City, both located in the state of California, served as the film’s locations for filming. With the help of JASH, Bravo was able to develop and distribute the video on the internet. The title of the movie was derived from the film Small Change, which was directed by Francois Truffaut in 1976 and about a youngster who lives after falling out of a window.

In her third short film, Pauline Alone, which was released in 2014, Gaby Hoffmann plays the role of a lady who is fascinated with Craigslist. Filmmaker magazine recognized her as one of the “25 New Faces of Independent Film” in the year 2014.” Victoria Beckham Is Living a Life Filled with Style and Grace” was the title of a featurette that Bravo produced in 2015 for the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the Women of the Year Awards on Glamour.

Hard World for Small Things was a live-action virtual reality video that was released by Bravo in 2016. It was a short film that depicted South Central in a “day in the life” manner. Eve Cohen and James Kaelan, both of Seed and Spark, provided financial support for the initiative in the form of a grant. The death of a relative who was visiting from Panama and who was asphyxiated by the police in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn in the summer of 1999 was the impetus for the film. The incident was a case of mistaken identification.

GoPro cameras were used to capture the footage for the virtual reality startup Wevr. The film was shown at the Sundance Film Festival, the Tribeca Film Festival, and the American Film Institute Festival in Los Angeles. The title of the movie was derived from a piece of dialogue that appeared in the film noir picture The Night of the Hunter, which was released in 1955. The film represented a significant shift in terms of its subject matter, as it centered on issues of race and politics.

Additionally, in 2016, Bravo sent the short film “Woman in Deep” to the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas. Additionally, The Nantucket Project provided funding for the film, which stars Alison Pill. Lemon, an indie film that Bravo directed and co-wrote with her husband at the time, Brett Gelman, was Bravo’s debut feature film, which she directed this year (2016). There are performances by Nia Long and Fred Melamed in addition to those of Gelman, Michael Cera, and Judy Greer in the film.

The following individuals were involved in this project: Shiri Appleby, Rhea Perlman, David Paymer, Gillian Jacobs, Megan Mullally, Martin Starr, Jeff Garlin, and Marla Gibbs. The film was taken up by Killer Films and Burn Later Productions after a pre-production process that was quite contentious. It had its debut at Sundance in 2017 when it was shown for the first time.”Juneteenth” is the ninth episode of the first season of the FX television program Atlanta, which Bravo directed in addition to generating her work.

Which stars and was developed by Donald Glover, as well as the fifth episode of the third season of the Netflix television program Love, which is titled “Bertie’s Birthday” and was written by Paul Rust and starring Paul Rust. Bravo, together with writer Jeremy O. Harris, is responsible for directing and co-writing “Zola,” the most recent film that Bravo has produced. Aziah “Zola” Wells, a waitress from Detroit, wrote 148 tweets in a thread describing a vacation she went to Florida with a sex worker called Jessica. The film is based on the tweets.
